Book Club selections available for checkout

In conjunction with the Golden Eagles Book Club, The Library has placed this semester’s readings on special reserve. In the month leading up to each author event, the book being discussed will be available for 2 day loans. The other two will be available for 1 week loans throughout the semester. Books on reserve are available at the 1st floor circulation desk.

Library book sale, Nov. 16th-19th

The Library will be holding a book sale from Wednesday, November 16th through Saturday, November 19th. Hardbacks will be $2 each, with most other books selling for only $1 a piece. By Friday, everything will be sold for half price and whatever is finally leftby the weekend will be up for grabs first come first serve. The sale takes place on the first floor during normal hours. Stop by and see what kind of deals you can find!

Food for Fines, Nov. 14th-18th

As part of the Student Activities Office’s events to raise awareness related to hunger and homelessness in our community, the Library will be waiving fines on Monday, November 14th through Friday, November 18th in exchange for a food donation that will go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

A donation of three food items (can goods and dry good items only please) will equal $5 waived off your fines. Additional donations will be credited as follows:

Bring in:                                           We will waive:
3 food items $5 in fines
6 food items $10 in fines
12 food items                                    $10 in fines
15 food items                                    $25 in fines
18 food items                                    $30 in fines

Please note:

Food items must be canned goods or dry goods with a future expiration date. Perishable items will not be accepted.
Food donations can only be applied to outstanding fines and cannot be applied to lost item fees.
You may donate to completely waive all your fines or donate a portion of your fines owed.
Food donations will be accepted at the Circulation Desk of the Library and at the CCICS Library.

Oct. 27th is NETT Day 2.0

The 2nd annual Northeastern Empowerment Through Technology (NETT2) Day is next Thursday, October 27th.

This year’s NETT day will feature: Jane McGonigal (author of Reality is Broken), Eugene Jarvis (game innovator and designer), technology workshops, faculty, student, staff and business exhibitions, classic arcade games, and much more! Events will be held in the Student Union. Be sure to stop by the Library’s booth in Alumni Hall from 12-4pm where we will be demonstrating mobile apps related to library research. One Book Per Semester for Fall 2011

The Library is supporting the College of Business and Management’s One Book per Semester (OBPS) during the fall 2011 semester. The Library has purchased a copy of Jane McGonigal’s Reality Is Broken and placed the copy on two-hour reserve at the Library’s Circulation Desk that is located on the first floor.

The copy is listed under the course MNGT OBPS.

Ronald Williams Library presents:

Who will be crowned Silent NEIU Library Champion? Compete for bragging rights and prizes during Fall Into Fun Week. Watch your friends and classmates participate in tough challenges without making a sound.

The challenge takes place Wednesday, September 7, 3-4 pm, at the Ronald Williams Library. Visit the Library booth at the Fall Into Fun Week Fair on Tuesday, September 6 to register.

“Class Act” Information Resource Fair this Saturday

The Library will be participating in the 3rd Annual Class Act event on Saturday, August 27th. We’d like to encourage any participating students to stop by and learn about the services we can offer during your time as a student at NEIU.

Our booth will be set up at the Student Organization and Resource Fair held from 1-4 pm in University Commons. See you then!

Coming Soon: New Computers and Furniture

Starting mid-July, computers and furniture throughout the library will be replaced. New computers on the second floor and the MLRC will be equipped with full MS Office, and computers in the MLRC will also have the latest Adobe Creative Suite.

Also, stay tuned for announcements regarding the upcoming library “Open House” which will take place sometime near the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester. New library resources, collections, and equipment will be highlighted.

Inauguration of Library Resource Center at El Centro

The library is excited to announce the official launch of the Library Resource Center at NEIU – El Centro, a specially funded learning space providing computers and remote library services. On Tuesday, November 9 2010 at 5:30 pm we will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony and small reception to celebrate the occasion.

The El Centro campus is located at 3119 N Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60641. Limited free parking and metered street parking is available.
