Mobile optimized Library website now available

We are pleased to announce that our website is now available in a mobile optimized version for smartphone users. Simply visit The Library’s homepage from a smartphone and you will be automatically re-directed to http://library.neiu.edu/m/.

The “Find Books & More” tab provides to a portable version of the catalog that you can while browsing the stacks. During regular library hours, the “Ask a Librarian” tool is also available for instant-messaging with a reference librarian directly from your smartphone.

Don’t forget we also have a Mobile Library Databases research guide highlighting other library resources with mobile interfaces.

CRSP database now available

CRSP, an historical database of U.S. stocks going back to 1925 and an invaluable resource for anyone doing stock market research, is now available in the Library. At the request of the College of Business and Management, CRSP has been loaded on four PCs in the Library’s MLRC (Multi-Media Learning Resource Center), which is located on the third floor. CRSP comes with self-contained tutorials on how to use the database.

Chicago Tribune access restored

As you may have noticed, over the summer the Library temporarily lost access to some issues of The Chicago Tribune. We are happy to announce that the licensing issues have been resolved and we now have full access to Tribune from 1849 to the present.

Content from 1849-1987 is available via ProQuest Historical Newspapers, while content from 1987 through the most current issue is available via ProQuest Chicago Tribune.

Chicago Tribune Temporarily Unavailable

Due to licensing changes, The Chicago Tribune will be unavailable for the next few months. The library plans to restore full access sometime after July 1st.

In the meantime the daily paper is available at the reference desk on the 1st floor of the library. Content published between 1849 and 1987 is still available via ProQuest Historical Newspapers. Content from the most recent issues is also freely available on the Chicago Tribune website.

New Look for the Library Catalog

The Library will be moving to a new interface to the Library catalog in June. Features of the new NEIU Library Catalog include:

Cleaner, simpler look and feel with improved response times
Choice of your own username and password to access your library account
Ability to narrow your searches with simple clicks (“faceted searching”)
Options for adding comments and tags to catalog records
Direct links to Google Book Search for brief previews

Plus, the same convenience of one-click requesting from I-Share is still available. If NEIU doesn’t own a book you need, just click Request this item to borrow the book from another academic library in Illinois.

You will need to create a new account to request materials from I-Share libraries and view your library account. Visit Your Account in the NEIU Library Catalog to create a new account or read our Instructions for Creating a New Account in the NEIU Library Catalog for more information.

Changes have already been made to the I-Share catalog for requesting. Go to https://i-share.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf to use the new I-Share catalog.

We are still working on the final look of the NEIU Library Catalog but a preview can be found at http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/vf-nei/.
